Protein production

The preparation of sufficient amounts of pure protein and nucleic acid samples for structural analysis represents a major bottleneck in structural biology. The Helmholtz Protein Sample Production Facility (PSPF), was established in 2007 by HZI and MDC, and is now extended by the Protein Expression and Purification Facility (PEPF) at HMGU. This decentralized facility provides unique expertise and infrastructures for high throughput cloning, expression, isotope labelling/deuteration and purification in E.coli, as well as an animal cell culture facility with medium and large scale bioreactors and downstream processing equipment up to a scale of 200 L.
